The difference a week made, between ‘watching’ us lose at Oxford away, not seeing exactly what happened with their fourth and fifth goals given it was misty, drinking in Covent Garden post match with the dawning realisation that we were going down. And then the announcement Keegan was our new manager, heading back home for the Bristol City game, watching the match with my brother.
The difference one man made to a football club, its support in the space of less than a week was staggering.
The impact he had is difficult to put into words but I can say I feel sorry for those who missed the second half of that season in which he kept us up (and it wasn’t plain sailing) and the promotion season. It was just brilliant.
The Bristol game was the first thing I thought of yesterday. Arrived in the scoreboard area of the Gallowgate by 130pm to make sure we got in. Everyone under about 16 was made to go through turnstiles in pairs. Wonder what the actual attendance was. But the buzz and anticipation of what was about to unfold was palpable. I remember the ground had been enveloped in a cloud of magical KK positivity. RIP
I was also at that foggy defeat at the Manor Ground, took the coaches. Awful weather, game even worse. But that 3-0. Amazing. Football eh? KK thanks for the memories.
Great read.
