I visit Birmingham a lot. It's probably a fair comment on that part of Birmingham, especially going through parts of Digbeth. Some of the centre is great up near the Museum/Library, the Gas Basin and the Jewellery Quarter. Other areas like Edgbaston and Morley are leafy and relaxed.
It sound like the new owners need to spend a bit on the ground, or build a new one.
You're right, of course, Scott. It's nice out in Harborne, and the squares around the town hall and cathedral are the pick of the city centre. But if you limit yourself to the the area around New Street and down to St Andrews, it's pretty grim. They're taking of a new 60,000 capacity ground on a new site, I think.
MP - great report, now I am comfortably in my 50s, I do like a taste of the sideways rain, treated like sheep, away day feeling, in a depressed, post-industrial city/town, whilst contrasting it with being sat warm on my sofa, all cosy with Gary, Alan and Shay as simpering company on the telly. The match as it unfolded to me was a great FA Cup Tie, which, due to His Eddiness and NUFC's resolve, I always though we would win in the 90 (or 103), even at 1-0 and 2-1 down. Perceptions are peculiar things: I saw a great game, although not quite the "uncontrollable joy" you mention! Keep up the excellent work.
I went to college in Birmingham 1972-76 and can confirm it was, indeed, a shithole. On the basis of our performance v Bromley I thought this would be a tough game but once we got our third Blues stopped trying to score and were more interested in trying to put our players in hospital. A very satisfying win
Bit harsh on Livramento. Had a difficult first half but contributed much better once Tonali & then Murphy came on. Their left winger also had a good game but Livramento got the better of him in the 2nd half. Old style cup game (I.e pretty dirty) & we did well to come out of it on top. Well done to the players, especially Krafth, Willock & Osuala for not retaliating to the thuggery.
Couldn't see much of what he did second-half - too far away - whereas the first half was right under our noses. Glad to hear he was better second half!
I think his & Hall’s performances are a kind of barometer for how we’re playing in a particular match. They both got the runaround v Bournemouth but have been pretty decent for the majority of the season. However, in the next few games & probably the League Cup Final, I’d be surprised if Trippier doesn’t get the nod ahead of Livramento after his superb playing & organising performance against Arsenal the other night. Livramento can keep learning & improving from Trippier.
Great report. Glad you focussed on getting in and how backward the place is. Disgraceful the way we were treated and no idea how didnt miss the KO. Shambolic at best. We move on as not the prettiest of wins but we grafted and didnt buckle.
Fair point. I thought he'd definitely been working on it and he didn't panic and go long when under pressure. It was the heavy touch and slowness to play the ball that spread a sense of worry, but maybe that's just a crowd thing, which confirms your point.
Excellent article. So typically 2020s that paying customers are treated so shittily by the people who own the business. We've been turned into serfs by companies with utter disdain for our custom.
Great report. This was a cup tie that a few years ago we would have lost. But even when they went 1-0 up, you never doubted Eddie and Jason turning it around. My worry is that we had to play our blue chip players, Bruno , Burn , Tonali, Isak at all. We need a bigger squad, especially if we qualify for Europe next year, as there are very few that seem to be coming through from the U21s, you only have to look at Liverpools team and bench to see how much stronger they are.

In fact I've just watched MOTD. The ball from Pope to Osula for the goal was 1st class.
If he'd have put it away first time he would have had an assist.
I moved from my seat in row 8 next to some friends in row 22, entirely missing their goal in the process
But didn’t see anything more of our first 2 goals than you did.
Then again, given how shit the lighting was, I’m not even really sure I saw much more on the YouTube highlights just now!

It's become a lazy cliché to slag off Pope's feet. Other than 1 into touch I thought they were fine and he made 2 outstanding saves.
Other than that a good report. Thanks.

Top report Matt! Ground, fans and opponents were all like they were last time I visited in the late 70’s!
