Sorry I’m with George on this one. The constant gamesmanship and disingenuous falling over is getting on my tits. Think their third goal came from the foul he committed when he finally got booked. Tripps by far the better captain.

That foul was disgraceful behaviour for a captain. McGinn (I think) caught him in the area. He was angry, ran back, and cynically and deliberately kicked him. Lost his head completely.

Yep 100%. Think McGinn played him. Cabbage heed still haunts us vicariously through his only decent signing.

He’s getting on my tits too - it was the Tielemans thing I didn’t agree with. And I agree about Trippier, much better captain.

Emery targeted our right hand side, seeing Trippier as (no fault of his own coz Iove him) an ageing weak link. That duly exposed Schar, and Murphy looked like he’d been enjoying the plaudits this week. Tino was good, he had zero defensive duties on the other side as Villa never attacked down their right, so he could get forward, Barnsey the same pretty good. Controversial but I wouldn’t mind seeing Isak run around a bit more!

It exemplifies the fast-paced nature of football that whilst still forever deifying our cup-winning heroes- that’s permanent of course- we’ll also have to bring in some faster younger players cut from the same cloth.

Bit too positive for my liking Stephen. Bruno (As an example) has had a poor season. Gets robbed a lot, falls down too often and his attempts at creative through balls generally overplayed. I'd swap him for Tielemans in a heart beat. On his day Joelinton is very powerful but he's easily upset and goes somewhere weird. Tonali was worth his 5.

Whinge whinge - it was a bad day.

Probably too positive, but if I’m honest I don’t think giving out 2s and 3s would do anything for the players. Bruno was probably too high, a 4 is probably more accurate. Schar had a nightmare, could have been a 1 but he scored.

Think on the pod I was more honest, nobody played well except Tino and Tonali really

To what extent was it Villa playing well or us playing badly? Watching it, I thought it was more the former.

That was a brilliantly simple tactic to play gentle balls along the ground and into space so their forwards could outpace our three veteran defenders, being careful not to play them hard enough to allow Pope to come out and clear up.

I think it’s both … I don’t think they were excellent but they were very good, we were awful really

Swap him for Tielemans!

I’m giving you a 2 George.

He’s been crap for years and now he’s in a really good team he looks a lot better.

Bruno dragged a pretty poor team up by the scruff of its neck and has the odd bad game. Absolutely cannot agree with you here.

Maybe you're right Mark. I'll accept the two! But he is getting on my nerves with constantly being robbed in midfield. I do like him as a guy and you're also right about Tielemans but his passing was remarkably sharp yesterday.

I meant to write a Bruno paragraph in the report. I think Sandro playing (mostly) at 6 only highlights Bruno's lack of pace even more as he has to cover more ground now. It's why he will never be bought for a lot of money and, let's face it, why we were able to pick him up in the first place. In a way, that's ok. That's baked in.

More worrying was that he seemed slow in thought too yesterday, dozy to react to things. And also those two passes overhit and straight out of play in good positions and a poor shot over the bar when well placed. If he plays higher up the pitch we need him to supply that quality. We know he has it in him - he's shown that.

I love the lad but yesterday he was in mad kid mode, fouling and berating the ref, constantly at the risk of being sent off, especially in the second half. I’m reluctant to criticise any of the lads ever now, but he wasn’t very captain-like yesterday. I’ll forgive him though, I’m not letting the good vibes go after one (terrible) game!:) Howay the Hot Rods and erstwhile manager!:)
